Ashley + Brent Wedding | July 29th
How They Met
The Bride // We met in college at a bar. We were both dating other people at the time, but we could tell there was a definite attraction to each other. We kept in touch for the next few years of school then in Brent's senior year we were both single and saw each other at a party. We exchanged numbers and went on a date a few days later. Brent's job took him all over the country; from San Diego to Maryland and then to Michigan, while I was living in Northwest Ohio. But we fought through the long distance difficulties and made it work. I moved to Michigan shortly after Brent did and we started our life together. A few years later, we were in Orlando, Florida for the University of Michigan bowl game. Brent and I were walking to lunch and he stopped out of nowhere and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I, of course, said yes. In Brent's words: "I was so nervous and sweaty. I opened the ring box upside down. I knew if she said yes then that she really did want to because I was a disaster."
The Bride // The day we got married was perfect. With an outdoor wedding, you're always taking a risk, but the weather couldn't have been better. Not too hot, not too cold and no humidity. The Toledo Country Club is easily one of the best places to get married in the Midwest. Brent and I got ready at the club with our wedding party and did our first look about an hour and a half before the ceremony. After a few photos together, we jumped in some golf carts with the rest of our wedding party to take some group photos. After that, it was time for the ceremony. It was wonderful to have my childhood pastor presiding over the ceremony in front of so many of our friends and family. Once the ceremony ended, our wedding party led the charge to the cocktail hour while Brent and I took photos with our family and then a few more together. We ate quickly, then it was time for our first dance to "Love Me Now" by John Legend. Finally, we were able to dance and enjoy the night on the dance floor with our friends and family! It went so fast, but it was amazing all the same.
Our vendors were wonderful. Our flowers were from Hafner Florists in Toledo, which were beautiful. Our DJ, Rob, from Decorative Sound, was amazing. We had met him at another wedding a few weeks before and were so impressed we requested him when we met with Decorative Sound to talk about our wedding. Our outstanding photographers were from Luckybird Photography and we will cherish our photos forever. Our cake was made by Zingerman's Bakehouse in Ann Arbor and was easily the best cake we've ever had. I was incredibly indecisive when it came to choosing my wedding dress, but The Gown Shop in Perrysburg gave me beautiful choices and made it easy for me to say yes to my gorgeous wedding gown. Finally, Dolly Keyes and the entire staff at Toledo Country Club could not have been better to work with. They took care of everything and made sure Brent and I had everything we needed for our day to go perfectly.
