How They Met
The Bride // Ryan and I met in grade school. We were friends all throughout our school years, but did not start dating until our senior year of High School. Ryan proposed to me in our favorite city when we first moved to Florida. Not only is St. Augustine considered to be the oldest city in the U.S. it also puts on an awesome display of lights every year during Christmas. It was a Saturday after I had been working all day at the pharmacy. Ryan asked me if I wanted to go out to dinner when I got off of work. After we ate dinner at our favorite restaurant, he suggested that we walk around the city to look at the lights. We made our way to the city center where they had a Christmas tree decorated. It was right in front of that tree where Ryan popped the question with many people surrounding us. Some of those people surrounding included my parents both dressed in disguises while capturing every moment of the experience.
The Bride // Our wedding took place at Fifth Third Field in downtown Toledo. Ryan and I both love baseball and the Toledo Mud Hens. We spent many summers at the stadium when we first started dating. When we were deciding on a venue we had no idea the stadium had such amazing event spaces. Once we saw the spaces and heard about all of the changes happening with Top of Nine and the rooftop, holding our wedding and reception at the stadium was a no brainer. We loved the feel of having a downtown wedding and we definitely loved the industrial look with elegant touches.
We chose emerald green as our main color and brought out the color only in the bridesmaid dresses and through the greenery of our decor. I chose emerald green because I liked the way the bridesmaid dresses looked in that color but it ended up playing into another theme that was not planned, but fell into place later. Along with our baseball theme due to our venue choice, we happened upon an Irish theme as well when we not only chose emerald green as our wedding color, but also held cocktail hour at The Blarney Irish Pub across the street and chose Dublin, Ireland as our honeymoon destination.
Another big part of our wedding was surrounded by our favorite band. Ryan and I both started to listen to the Dave Matthews Band when we began dating and it was the first concert we attended together as a couple. Since then we make it a point to go to a concert every summer and we even went to a concert the week of our wedding! To incorporate our shared love for the band we decided to use the wine bottles from The Dreaming Tree, a winery Dave Matthews co-created, for our centerpieces. They were very simple with three wine bottles filled with fresh flowers. We also incorporated the band into our seating assignments by labeling the tables with song names instead of numbering them. And of course, we used plenty of their music throughout our ceremony and reception.
The magic behind our amazing day was all thanks to the amazing wedding vendors we worked with. Although we enjoyed creating and including our own personal touches with our centerpieces and ceremony back drop, we loved working with Mager Designs to help transform the spaces into something we could have never done on our own. The lighting and drapery they provided really brought the spaces to life. Our photographers, Swatch Studios, did a perfect job capturing the day for us. From our engagement session to the wedding day, we really felt like close friends with Brooks and Diana. Their laid back and kind approach with us, helped to ease our fear of being in front of the camera. For our reception, live music was the first decision we made and the band we chose, Nine Lives, was a hit with our guests. They really helped to keep our guests engaged and having fun throughout our reception. We also chose to incorporate a photo booth into our reception and The Toledo Photo Guy had a great set up. It was fun looking back on all of the pictures our guests took throughout the night.
